Society of St. Vincent De Paul

The society of Vincent de Paul (SSVP) is an international Roman Catholic lay organization dedicated to tackling poverty and disadvantage by providing direct practical assistance to anyone in need. The SSVP "conference" in Katapadi parish was started in September, 27, 1974.
The SSVP group has adopted poor families within the parish limits and provide monthly rations and medical assistance. The group also offers financial assistance for education to children from financially poor backgrounds towards fees, books and uniforms. The weekly meeting of the SSVP happens on Sundays.

Altar Servers

An Altar Server is a lay assistant to a member of the clergy during a Christian religious service. An altar server attends to supporting tasks at the altar such as fetching and carrying, ringing the altar bell and so on. A young male altar server is commonly called an altar boy. The boys after completing 4th standard join altar boys and participate in the mass. At present there are about 30 boys. They meet regularly on every Sunday morning.

Girls Marian Sodality

Under the patronage of Mother Mary, we have a Sodality for girls called Girls Marian Sodality.

Aims and objectives:
  • To imbibe the spirit of Mother Mary in their life to lead a disciplined life to respect elders and to each others.
  • The Sodality members meet on every Sunday morning with enthusiasm.
  • They give their helping hand in liturgical matters. Presently there are 35 active members.

Secular Franciscan Order

The Secular Franciscan Order also called the Third Order is a community of Catholic men and women in the world who seek to pattern their lives after Christ in the spirit of Francis of Assisi. Secular Franciscans are tertiaries, or members of the Third Order of Saint Francis founded by Francis of Assisi 800 years ago.
Originally known as the Brothers and Sisters of Penance, the Order is open to any Catholic. Although Secular Franciscans make a public profession, they are not bound by public vows as are religious living in community. Because the Order belongs to the spiritual family of the Franciscan movements, the Holy See has entrusted its pastoral care and spiritual assistance to the Franciscan First Order (Order of Friars Minor).
In our parish church, Secular Franciscan Brotherhood was founded in the year 2015.

Young Catholic Students(YCS)

Young Catholic Students (YCS) is a movement of awareness, reflection and action for teenagers. It caters for an all-round personality development, leadership training, a great depth and breadth of vision of life and action. It offers a real challenge to students and trains them for leadership in and through action. It was founded in the year 1931 by Cardinal Joseph Cardijn in Belgium. It adheres to the unique methodology of See, Judge and Act which results in Awareness, Reflection and Action. The efforts of the YCS are directed towards the integral development of the students and teenagers by promoting religious harmony among people of different faiths. The ultimate aim is to build a new society based on Justice and Peace.
At present we have 15 active members who meet regularly under the guidance of their animator.

Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM)

ICYM is a largest Premier Catholic Youth Movement. It is spread across 627 districts in India. The ICYM functions through 14 Regions & 171 Dioceses. The dreams and aspirations of thousands of youth, animators, directors and bishops turned into a reality when CBCI (Catholic Bishops' Conference of India) had approved ICYM as a National Movement for the youth on 14th September, 1999. Integral Development of Youth through Formation, Fellowship and Action being the main objectives of youth ministry, ICYM caters to varied needs of the holistic development of its young members.

Catholic Sabha

The Catholic Sabha of Katapadi parish which works under the motto- Service, Sacrifice and Unity was established on 2nd of September 2001. Its main aim is to create awareness in the society regarding human rights, leadership and other spheres of social development including political awareness, economical growth, educational growth and involvement in the civil service, improvement of the cultural life etc., mainly of the catholic community.

Legion Of Mary

The Legion of Mary came into existence in Dublin, Ireland on the 7th of September, 1921.It is an organization which renders it service on voluntary basis and is established in almost every country. In Katapadi the Legion of Mary was established on 1954. A unit of the Legion of Mary is called a Praesidium. The Praesidium of Katapadi was named as the "Mary Queen of Peace". The objective of the Legion is the glory of God through the holiness of its members developed by prayer and active co-operation in Mary and Church's work.
The legion sees as its top priority the spiritual and social welfare of each individual. The members work for the betterment of the parish by paying a visit to houses, the old and the sick. They also render social service by visiting orphanages, hospitals, old age houses. Every legionary is supposed to carry out a weekly apostolic work in the spirit of faith and in union with Mary.

Stree Sangatan - Women's Association

St. Lucy - stree sangatan unit Katapadi came to existence in the year 2013. They organise various training programmes and awareness programmes. In each of the wards there are self-help groups.
